Congratulations to the 2018 Newman Civic Fellows

The Newman Civic Fellowship is a one-fellowship for community-committed college students from Campus Compact member institutions. The fellowship honors the late Frank Newman, one of Campus Compact’s founders and a tireless advocate for civic engagement in higher education. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides a variety of learning and networking opportunities, including a national conference of Newman Civic Fellows in partnership with the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. The fellowship also provides fellows with pathways to apply for exclusive scholarship and post-graduate opportunities. Fellows from the garden state will also be invited to act in an advisory capacity to NJCC’s Changebuilders project, designed to make this THE engaged state.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to celebrate and engage with such an extraordinary group of changebuilders,” said Campus Compact CEO Dr. Saul Petersen. “Our work must now be to rally around and advocate for the achievement of these extraordinary people's goals for making our society more just, fair and inclusive.”

The 2018 cohort of Fellows includes seven fellows from right across New Jersey and we are excited to congratulate the following public problem solvers – with links to their personal statements and testimonies from the president or chancellor of each institution:

Hope Leonard – Centenary University

Sergio Crespo – New Jersey City University

Amber Lindsay – Raritan Valley Community College

Ashley Vasquez – Rutgers University-Newark

Nitan Shanas – Rutgers University-Camden

Bryan Gonzalez-Mejia – Stockton University

Tyesha Crawford – William Paterson University

The Newman Civic Fellowship is supported by the KPMG Foundation and Newman’s Own Foundation.
